Supreme Court Justice Howard Wynn stuns colleagues, family and foes when it is revealed that he has given his law clerk Avery Keane, his power of attorney.
Suffering from a terminal neurological disorder, Justice Wynn now lies in the hospital in a coma. Pending before the Supreme Court is a case involving the merger of an Indian biotech firm and an American pharmaceutical company. The president of the United States opposes the merger on the grounds that it would threaten national security.
But together the two firms have the knowledge and technology to cure the disease that is killing Justice Wynn. It’s too late for the justice, but not for his estranged son Jared.
Avery finds herself in a storm of publicity and suspicion that threaten her future as an attorney. But a series of messages relayed to her through Wynn’s files, his son and his nurse, lead Avery to believe the stakes here are high, much higher than the medical fate of a man and his son.
The more she unravels Justice Wynn’s baffling clues, the more she realizes that the techniques that can cure the justice, can also be weaponized. In fact, it may already be in process. But by whom?
Avery knows she’s being watched and followed. Can she uncover the players and the stakes before they eliminate her or Justice Wynn?
This is a legal thriller of the highest order. Avery uses her legal training and what she learned as Judge Wynn’s clerk to apply the law like a fencer.
This book is suspenseful and highly entertaining.
